Pretty cool-Part II

This is a heartwarming story…today our friend Carl was having his housewarming luau party combined with his granddaughter’s birthday. She lives in Michigan with her mom, so it was a BIG DEAL party with all his friends and family. I had to leave the “luau” about an hour into it to pick up our younger daughter at her friend’s house. About halfway there, my husband called me on the cell phone and said,” Hurry up and get back here, Carl and June are getting MARRIED!” It was a surprise wedding (to most of us anyway) to his long-time love! We rushed back, just in time for the ceremony and I was SO peeved. I had worn my cute little cropped jean overalls and looked like a farmer–for a WEDDING! I would have chosen something different if I’d only known… However, it was terrific. Carl’s mom was murdered about a year and a half ago–very devastating for all of us. She was a wonderful lady and my husband’s second mother growing up. We were both very close to her and it’s been especially difficult for Carl, who lived right next door to her. (he had to move because he couldn’t handle living there any more.) We are so thrilled to see him take this positive step in his life and sad that Louise couldn’t be here to share it. We miss you, Louise!!He(and June) seem very happy and we are all delighted for them!

I thought I would include a photo of Heather, Carl’s daughter, who is an EMT and training to be a paramedic, her boyfriend, Fred, a paramedic and the birthday girl, Olivette. It is eerie how much Oli resembles Heather! I remember Heather so well at that age; her mom had just deserted their family so we had them over a lot. She latched on to me as a Mommy figure and we experimented with make-up, played games and danced around the room. I wish she didn’t live so far away—I miss you, Heather!!
