STARGAZER:

A View Into My Universe

I have only myself to blame; I did tell our family friend that I wanted updates on Melissa, his 16 year old granddaughter, who has cancer. (my friend Karen’s daughter) I just didn’t realize how horribly difficult it would be to read messages like this–and figure out a way to respond…
Our most recent news, after a biopsy of an enlarged lymph node, is it is an active tumor. Melissa will have a newer or different chemo that hopefully will get to this node and reduce its size. She will go as an outpatient to the clinic for treatment every day for 1-2 hours of medicines for two weeks and be able to go home each day. The treatment will begin Monday, September 27th and it will be determined if she goes to school or not by how she feels day to day.
We do thank all of you for your kind responses. Karen is a strong woman and is so thankful for so many loyal friends. Thanks everyone. Merle

My God, this has to be so hard. I can’t imagine this, those evil cells taking over the body of such a YOUNGSTER. It’s so unfair, and so frightening. And the “news” continues to be so bad, so dire, and yet I sense hope. I guess… that’s about all you can hang on to.

My prayers are with their family and friends. I went through all this with my father a few years ago and it is so hard.
There is a wonderful group called Chemo Angels if you think she may be interested (I am actually one of them). What they do is support people going through chemo and radiation treatments by sending cards and packages to them during their treatment. It’s an awesome group. I don’t know if I can post their link here but you can email me or just type in their name it it will come up on the web. I joined after my father’s fight with cancer and am so happy I did.
