10,000 Villages and a life lesson

10000_villages_5

Our older daughter is doing her Culminating(Senior) Project experience at a place called 10,000 Villages. It is run by the Mennonite Church and the way she discovered it was on our trip back east. It was a trip she despised, because we were going for her sister’s gymnastics; as it turned out, Alison pulled her hamstring the DAY BEFORE we left, so she didn’t get to do any gymnastics. Anyway, we happened to be shopping in Chesnut Hill in Philadelphia and came upon a 10,000 Villages store, with which Ashley was intrigued. As I have pointed out to her on several occasions, she absolutely did not want to go on this trip and yet, if we hadn’t, she would never have discovered this place, found their store in Seattle and had a fabulous day today greeting customers, using the cash register, and meeting many interesting people. From what we believe to be negative experiences can come personal growth and new direction!

I learn something new and interesting from you everyday, Margaret! My Lizzie is very keen on learning more about this volunteering opportunity.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about volunteering, maybe at an animal shelter or something. Your daughter is pretty special to get involved at such an early age.

Thanks for the information. I went to the site and located not a store, but a festival showcasing their merchandise near us in November!
I am very interested in learning more about this!

Thanks so much for sharing this! I went to their site too and am planning on going to the store not only to shop but to volunteer as well. Thanks so much for sharing and what a special daughter you do have!
I’m back in town and catching up and will email you some time this week when I get through them all. 🙂
