STARGAZER:

A View Into My Universe

Kingfisher Cove and I will be attending our thirty year high school reunion this weekend and I don’t know what to expect, except an extremely BUSY time. What is bizarre are my own feelings of not being very sure that I want to go. (after all of this work, shouldn’t I be excited?) Now comes the whiny part…I woke up this morning with a sore throat, always a sign that I am getting a cold. I don’t feel horrible, but could really use a quiet, relaxing weekend curled up in front of the fire with one of my mysteries. I am also getting a ZIT–I know, how trite!! (big event=acne, will some of this crap never end?) Will I be sicker by the weekend? Will I be covered with pimples? I know I will not be the most elegant or beautiful woman there; Tonya and I can probably predict who those people will be. I will not be the richest or most successful or have the handsomest husband. Now, I’m not really saying that I want any of those things; I just want to stand out somehow for something other than my ZIT and (by Friday) red, runny nose. In other words, I will still and always be the girl I was in high school–the smart, nice, school-teacher type who pretty much got overlooked. I know there are many worse things in life; I am just having a bit of a pity party!

I SO hear you! I’m dealing with the “chub factor”. Coulda-shoulda done something about that a long time ago! But. What I’m looking forward to is seeing my friends. The people who did matter to me in high school (and who still matter to me — how about that?) We’re all the same age — we’re all approaching 50, and I just suspect that we’ll fit in just fine. It’s not like the 10th reunion where everybody felt they had something to prove. If nothing else, we can hang out together and make fun of everybody behind their backs! My hubby is looking forward to meeting your hubby — I think they’ll have a fair amount in common. I know — working on the committee is a total burn-out. That’s why I basically flaked this summer, so I could actually enjoy the event. :o)

Nobody will even notice a zit…and if they do, they’re not friends worth having. Hahaha….do I sound like your mother?
I hope you’re feeling better by the weekend and that the zit is a distant red memory.

I’m with Tonya….go, have a great time IN SPITE of your runny nose and your zit.

I recently ran into my high school biology lab partner while running on the trails near my house – it was fantastic seeing her! There are many more people I’d love to see – the ones I really liked. I bet you will have a blast and you will see people you had forgotten how much you liked – that will make you happy. My prediction in any case. Maybe the cute guy you had a crush on will be there too! (lol)

…and maybe that cute guy will be with a wife who is COVERED in Zits!
You are smart, witty and fun … and you’ll have Tonya! I think most “almost-fifty-year-olds” are over that “having to prove something” stage. You may actually enjoy them MORE than you did at ten years!
(Thirty years seems like so long ~ and then I reallized I graduated HS 31 years ago! YIKES!)
