A View Into My Universe

Reunion Festivities-Part I

Last night’s casual football game/tavern activities were pretty darned good, considering that it could have been pouring down rain(or ASH), freezing cold or boring. As everyone knows, because I’m a whiner, I don’t feel up to par and since I have taught at RHS for 24 years, I had many former students, former teachers and current teachers coming up to me to chat. That would be great under normal circumstances, when I can do more than croak and sniffle. The good news is that Kingfisher Cove couldn’t see my zit, even after looking at it closely. (ofcourse, it was dark, Tonya!) The game truly STUNK. I don’t mind losing, but it was the way it happened. A long bomb goes perfectly into the arms of the other team. On a kick-off, an RHS player loses sight of the ball, it hits him on the back, he looks around frantically as the other team’s player falls across the ball on our 20 yard line. As I tell myself and other people though, these are just KIDS–they want to do well, but get nervous and make mistakes. The tavern was full and loud, especially with the pictured Elvis impersonator, the boyfriend of one of our weirder classmates. (has a life story that would curl your hair, if it’s not already curly) He kept coming up to me and singing which made me uncomfortable. Finally my husband gave him the famous STARE that backed him away. It is impossible to describe or imitate this look; suffice it to say that when we see it, we immediately stop the offending action. It was fascinating to see the changes in classmates or lack thereof. I recognized many of the women, but not as many of the men. Was I really NOT looking in high school?? No wonder I didn’t have a boyfriend until college! Everyone was very friendly, but because of my croaky voice, I didn’t mingle as much as I wanted to. Perhaps tonight will be less noisy and easier for me to visit with people. Elvis is NOT invited, I hope!
