Mom and I drove up to Seattle today–what an adventure! Since the horrendous freeway traffic started, I have avoided going there unless necessary. We had decided though to visit Ashley at 10,000 Villages while she was working–SURPRISE! She has been talking about how many items up there she would like to buy and we have no ideas for her for Christmas so…we went up there credit cards and cash in hand. She was a bit embarrassed to see us; she is shy and we can be loud and overwhelming people. We don’t mean to be, we just are! Traffic was very nasty on the way up due to a jackknifed semi. (as my mom, Mrs. Malaprop, charmingly told my father on the cell phone–a truck is hijacked on the freeway.) Luckily, he has been married to her for 50+ years and I heard his bellow of laughter all the way over in the driver’s seat. My mom is also a nervous passenger, “Margaret, I see brake lights up there!” “Margaret, I think that man is going to pull in front of you!!” We did survive the trip though with no terse words and found the store easily. (but not a parking spot ofcourse) Ashley did pick out a few things she liked, but the sweater she fell in love with was gone and the world music she wanted needed to be ordered. Afterwards, Mom and I meandered over to a store called Whole Foods–right around the corner from 10,000 Villages. What an incredible place! I could barely get past the gorgeous pastry case; I could have easily bought 10 beautiful concoctions. It reminded me of a French bakery! I would like to visit again, if I could be magically beamed to Seattle, like Star Trek.

Whoa, what a day you had! I’ve been chuckling about the hijacked truck! (tee hee) I hate it when my mom’s a passenger when I’m driving because she’s constantly slamming her foot on the phantom break pedal. A car can be coming a mile down the road and she’s convinced it’s going to ram into us. But even that is better to deal with than HER driving. I swear her steering wheel has 2-inch grip-dents at 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock.
The shopping sounded like fun, though! And it was a pretty nice day. -
Hey! This California Mom-chick knows that corner of Seattle. Kinda in the Ravenna section, near UofW, right? Sweet little section of town. Yah, baby…we get around. BTW, don’t get spiraled into the Whole Foods vortex, you’ll never pull out. I can’t. Tried the patch and everything, but still addicted.
