Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday; she would have been 94. Looking back on her declining health in 2024 and 2025, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that she was ready to go and no longer had a quality of life that she considered at all worthwhile. Lately though, there have been so many times when I’ve wanted to tell her something or ask her a question about the past. Tomorrow my yard guy, Thu, will cut down Old Copper, my 30-year-old dead rhododendron and the centerpiece of my front flower bed. Again, I accept that it has to happen; should I watch or not watch? I’m leaning no–just to avoid embarrassing myself or Thu. I could get emotional…which is perfectly OK but preferable in private.

Tomorrow I’ll be watching this sweetheart for a few hours so his older brother can go to gymnastics class. I’ve been helping out a lot with my younger two grandsons since their mother has been temporarily working in the office forty minutes away; for me that’s included another early get up to take the boys to daycare and several evenings dealing with Ian while Younger Daughter does bedtime for Anders. I’m certainly not going to enjoy when YD moves 20 minutes away (versus five). I still don’t approve of this house purchase, but I’ve learned to mostly keep my mouth shut once I’ve carefully yet honestly given my opinion.

This guy is extremely good with his letters and numbers; he loves to serenade us with a large repertoire of songs and seems very smart. Is he always perfectly behaved? No. Neither am I for that matter. In his case, it mostly revolves around age and stage. What’s my excuse? 🙂 Today he got a Happiness Award for “listening well and remembering lots of information.” To him that meant: getting to choose a small squishy rabbit out of the Rewards Box. He is a fan of rabbits, as his special stuffed bunny proves. It’s bedraggled and its head looks like it’s ready to fall off!

Today there were some new animals on my walk. I was shocked to see these goats with the horse. I’ll have to ask Doug, the owner and fellow walker (with his dog) about the expansion of their menagerie.

Older Daughter thanked me for encouraging her to buy this Chihuly rose, which is blooming beautifully and glowing with light. It’s gorgeous, isn’t it? This child of mine turns 40 next month and has decided that she wants a Senegalese style birthday party. Should I remind her how much she used to complain about those all-day affairs? In this case, it’s a drop in from 4 o’clock on with Karaoke, dancing (the Senegalese love to dance), yard games, and make your own paninis; she titled the invitation “Party like it’s 1986!” I’m pretty sure we’ll be listening to lots of music from that era, including Prince. And this is a secret, but I bought this to wear to the party…

I can’t WAIT to see Older Daughter’s face. However, I’m a little concerned that John will refuse to be seen with me. LOL
