A View Into My Universe

Oh, *excrement!*

Yesterday I was all dressed up in my “lucky” Seahawks pants and jersey, looking like I could play for the team–if I were a kicker from 10 years ago named Stephen Haushka anyway. John and I don’t take the football games too seriously although of course we want Seattle to win, especially when they’re playing certain teams that are conference rivals. I should mention that John hardly swears at all (nor do I after 37 years as a classroom teacher), so when I heard him say loudly, “Oh, *excrement*!” while I was in the bathroom, I knew yet another disaster had occurred, to add to the painful interception and fumble we’d already watched. Incidentally, the potty trip had nothing to do with the title of this post; I drink LOTS of water and am on a blood pressure medication with a diuretic. TMI? So, one of our not-very-impressive running backs fumbled the ball in the end zone, resulting in a touchdown for the other side. I was LIVID. Luckily, my older grandsons weren’t here, or I would have had to resort to, “Oh, my goodness! Dagnabbit!” It’s adorable to hear them parrot my old lady phrases, even though it won’t last. What I really would have wanted to say: HOLD ON TO THE EFFING BALL!

In other bathroom news, Anders spent most of the day with me today due to his pink eye. He ate like a champ, used Mr. Bear potty twice, played with my meager collection of toys and “rearranged” most of my house. He helped me get the mail too; him carefully carrying the junk mail all the way from the box was so precious. Unfortunately, in spite of my fast talking, I couldn’t convince him to use the potty for #2. I extoled the virtues of using the toilet (less smell, no squishy diaper, waving goodbye to you-know-what) and even listed all the notable people who use the potty for #2 (mommy, daddy, cousins, grandparents, even MARI) I’ve lost my touch! During my teaching career, I successfully persuaded advanced students that the subjunctive was fun and that grammar was fascinating. I still believe that!

He ate an excellent lunch (had already polished off his strawberries and blueberries) but really needs a haircut. I almost took my scissors to a few spots…

In other happenings, my niece J. was invited to Homecoming at her small Christian school by this nice young man. Her mother didn’t approve of J’s dress at all due to its short and tight style and revealing neckline. Since SIL has never found a battle she didn’t want to pick, I was shocked that she didn’t say no to the dress. I kept my mouth firmly shut on the topic. No opinion here at all. šŸ˜‰

OD and her family are staying busy with sports, school, birthday parties, etc. some of which Obro hates dislikes. Sharky got a rainy morning for his soccer game which was miserable for everyone and made me thankful that my own daughters did dance and gymnastics. Indoor activities are much more comfortable!

We’re now back to sun and high 60s, perfect weather for my cyclamen. Isn’t this a beauty?

Sadly, a couple of the plants I put in the flowerbeds have their blooms lying on the ground; I’m hoping that it’s an overwatering or temperature issue and that they’ll perk back up.

Meanwhile, I feel like I’m catching a cold. It’s time for some Zicam and extra Vitamin C. Oh, *excrement!*

No such thing as TMI with me. I worked in healthcare for a few years and before that I was a newspaper reporter and editor. You can tell me anything. Compared to some of the Homecoming and Prom dresses I’ve seen, your niece’s is not bad. She is a nice looking young lady. You’ve noticed, no doubt, that I have a big-time potty mouth. It could be worse, but I’ve been restraining myself. I happen to be fond of the subjunctive, too.

    Love,

HA, I know I have a tendency to overshare and worry sometimes about being too open. My SIL is very conservative, so I thought she would insist on a more modest dress. I’ve seen the current crop of dresses, and they are indeed revealing or, as others might say, young women feel more comfortable about their bodies. That’s a positive. In the ’70s I wore mini-skirts so who am I to judge? I tend to swear more than John but never around the littles and mostly not the f-bomb. I’m still a bit teacherish. In French, you can’t express opinions, doubts, or feelings about things without the subjunctive. I have many opinions and am full of feelings, so I LOVE the subjunctive.
