A View Into My Universe

Finding the Good

It’s become clear to me that looking for small miracles and beauties is the way to go. My neighbor who had the stroke did survive but is not going to make it. His wife and son have made the decision to put him on comfort care; it won’t be long. There was no big miracle for him, sadly. His son will start college at the University of Washington in the fall while his wife has no family here, nor does she work to my knowledge. We neighbors are trying to figure out ways to help and support them. My friend across the street has two more months of chemo to (hopefully) keep his Stage 4 colon cancer from recurring. He’s young enough to be my son. In the midst of all this emotional turmoil, I’m focusing on time with my loved ones and trying to keep cool in our heat wave. Mid-90s today, YUCK!

Dinner with John: freshly caught pink salmon, asparagus with a balsamic drizzle, baked potatoes with sour cream and bacon bits and Caesar salad. Ice cream for dessert. I found lots of good in this meal! Note: I need to get back to walking and even running at this rate…

Sitting outside on my now comfortable deck (cools down nicely in the evening), John and I were treated to some lovely clouds and sky.

Mari continues to work her way back to “normal.” That means eating more, using the litter box more and curling up in her new favorite chair at my mom’s dining room table. Her former spot was the one right behind there; I don’t know why she now prefers the closer one. Perhaps to keep an eye on me?

Now to get ready for a lake day at a friend’s with Older Daughter and her Littles. Swimsuit or shorts? Either way, it will be horrifying to behold. LOL

Sorry about the neighbors. Weren’t there also language issues for the stroke victim’s wife? Wishing her the best.
I LOVE the salmon dinner! I often cook it with asparagus and potato friends, sometimes rice though. I know you get better salmon in the pacNW than we do in the Great Lake State where it has to be flown in. Copper River salmon is pretty darn good and we can get that here when it’s in season.

Swimsuit while you still can. It gets worse. 😇

I’m glad Mari is feeling better. I had salmon for dinner, but it probably wasn’t as fresh as yours! Sorry to hear about the neighbor(s). I was telling my mom about him while I was taking her to urgent care (she’s ok).
It’s always fun to see the next “new fun spot” to sleep with cats.

I’m sorry about your neighbour and I hope your other neighbour makes a full recovery.
Yes, focusing on small, good things is the way to go.

Sounds like a wonderful meal though if I were cooking it, I would probably skip the potato and ice cream parts and just go with the salad and salmon with asparagus.

Swimsuit. If other people can’t handle it that is THEIR problem. Flaunt what you got!

I’m so sorry about your neighbor. That poor family.

Oh, that’s sad about the neighbor. I imagine the police officers are feeling some guilt for not being more thorough on that first home visit. (If they even know about this outcome.)
    That salmon looks yummy!
It’s funny that Mari changed positions. Maybe there’s a slight temperature difference or something? Or more probably, as you said, a clearer sight line.

Enjoyed the photos of that lovely fish dinner and sweet Mari, was sad to read about that very unfortunate neighbor; but it’s sweet how his neighbors, yourself included, is thinking of his wife & family. I hope you keep us posted on things there, Margaret. And it sounds like you’re taking advantage of all that heat!

I am sorry to hear about your neighbors. Health crises are hard on everyone, and they are usually unexpected.
Your salmon dinner looks delicious and likely fresher than anything I’ve had in a very long time.
Enjoy your swim. Time by the water is always enjoyable.

Oh, John’s meal made my mouth water.
Always folks worse off than we are. That poor family. Hope things get better for them.

I am so sad about your neighbors. Such a tragedy.

Oh, I’ve been so out of the loop with all my visitors! Just catching up. Gosh, you’ve been having a dramatic time… Happy belated birthday!

So sorry about the many bad things right now. So glad about the many good things. I hope Mari continues to improve, and that your neighbor finds peace and the help she will need going forward. UGH.
    That salmon dinner looks delicious!
